Come on as a hand, and keep everything you already have.
To hire on is to come on as a hand. You keep your job and you keep your employer, you license a record of how you work, and you are paid for every hour that record is in use. Nobody is employed by Even Steven, and no owner takes you on either, because what an owner licenses is a way of working and never a person.

Four things are true on the day you come on, and the fourth catches people out.
Hire on is the trade's word for coming on with an outfit, and it is our word for this door. It does not carry its usual freight here, so the four things below come before anything else on the page.
You keep your job.
You go on running your own machine, for your own employer, at your own rate. Nothing about your day changes, and nothing about your ticket, your seniority or your seat changes with it. What changes is that a second thing can earn while you are doing something else.
You license a record of how you work.
The record is what their hands did, what the machine did back, and what the person was looking at when they acted, timed against one clock and held inside one signed chain. It stays yours, held under licence. We own what we build from it, and we never buy the technique, because there is nothing there to acquire.
You are paid every hour it runs.
A share of every hour your way of working is in use, for as long as it is in use. It is not a lump sum and it is not a handshake. Paid weekly, by electronic transfer, with a statement to your address every time.
Nobody here employs you.
Even Steven is not your employer and does not become one by any paper in the package. An owner does not take you on either. An owner licenses a way of working, for the family of machine it was taught on, and a person on that owner's own crew still says go.
Two doors are easy to confuse. An owner comes to the store front to find a way of working by name. You come through this one to put your own name to a record of how you work. Neither door is a labour arrangement, and nobody is sent to anybody's site.
The trade uses one phrase for coming on with an outfit, and we would rather use the trade's phrase than invent a polite one. What sits behind it here is a licence and a payment obligation, and the page says so in the words the agreements are being written in.

Everything about your side of this lives in one place from the first day, under one number, and the door to it is in your name.
When you come on you are given a number. It is assigned in order, it is never reused, and it is carried on everything of yours from that day: the file, the papers you signed, the sessions, the listing, the count and every statement. A number that has been given out is not given out again, whatever happens afterwards. It goes at the head of every paper, so a page found on its own can be put back where it belongs. It is an internal marker and it is not a rank.

Nobody at Even Steven can sign in as you.
There is no support account, no administrator and no master key. The consequence we accept for that is that we cannot read your file out of our own software, and it is the correct consequence.
The file is not your employer's.
Whoever arranged the day, the record it made is information about you, so the door to it is in your name. An employer does not hold a key to it and cannot ask us for one.
Nothing in it grades you.
No score, no rating, no rank against another name, and no field for an owner's or a supervisor's opinion of you. There is nowhere in the file for one to be written, and that is by design rather than by policy.
You come on as a hand, and you stay exactly where you are.
The seat is still yours, the employer is still yours, and the ticket in your pocket is still yours.

Eight papers, asked for one at a time, and a no to any one of them is an answer.
Consent comes apart. It is not one signature. The four agreements are separate, each given on its own and withdrawn on its own, so you can say yes to one and no to another and the no is honoured without emptying anything else.
- 01To be recorded at allPermission to make the record. Nothing else follows from it. Without your yes there is no session, whatever has been arranged, and you are told what is recorded, in plain words, before it starts.
- 02To be combined with othersPermission for your work to go into one built thing with more than one person's way of working in it. It is not permission to be recorded and it does not create one.
- 03To run under your namePermission for a way of working to be licensed under your name, for somebody else's job. Nothing runs under a house name or a number, because a number would rank you last.
- 04To be used to train a modelPermission for the record to be used to train a model rather than to run a machine. It is asked for on its own, in plain words, never folded into another yes, and the limit is stated before you agree: a model cannot be un-trained, so a withdrawal of it means nothing new runs from the day your notice arrives and the material comes out at the next revision of the model, with that date stated first.
- 05The licence and payment agreementThe covenant's five clauses written as terms, on one paper. The four above are not folded into it and it does not stand in for any of them. What it pays and how is the next section, and the rate it is built around is on the covenant.
- 06The consent to be listedYour yes to a page about you: a photograph of you, an introduction in your own words, a résumé in your own words, and photographs of your work with your own captions. It is its own paper with its own signature line, it is withdrawn on its own, and on a withdrawal the page comes down the same day.
- 07The second signatureWhere a works council, a union or another body has a say in whether recording happens where you work, its signature is asked for beside your own, before anything is recorded. It sits beside your yes. It does not replace it and it does not spend it. The recording waits for that answer as it waits for yours.
- 08The payment instructionWhere the money goes, held as you wrote it, through your own door. A change to it is a new entry rather than an edit, so a question about where a payment went has an answer that is not somebody's memory.
A yes to one is not a yes to all. A signature on an equipment contract or on a paper about taking a job is not one of these agreements and never stands in for one. A no to one of the four leaves the other three exactly as you gave them, and a yes given today does not grow into something wider by being left alone. Each is withdrawn on your own say, needing nobody's agreement, and free.
The papers go to you after you write, and they are read at a kitchen table.
Nothing is signed on this site and nothing is signed at a first meeting. You write, a person answers, and the package goes to you to read in your own time, on paper if you want it on paper.
The agreements are written to be read by the person signing them, at a kitchen table, without a legal department. If a clause needs a lawyer to explain what it does to you, it is rewritten until it does not.
Take it to your own counsel or your own representative and read it beside whatever else you have been offered. Whether a recording arrangement affects your employment agreement, your obligations to an employer, or your position under a collective agreement is for them and not for us, and anyone selling you something who offers a view on it is telling you what suits them.
Nobody signs any of it before counsel has settled it. That is where the papers are today.
This page describes the papers. It does not set them out and it does not stand in for them. The words that bind are the words on the paper you are given, and you are given all of it before you are asked for a signature.

The count is kept in sessions. A session is one recording with its own identifier and its own signature, so it counts itself rather than being counted for you. The count starts when somebody on a crew picks whose way of working runs, by name, and writes their own name on the choice. That choice is the clearance, and the hours are written from that moment on the record that already carries the chooser's name, so the count and the clearance cannot be pulled apart.
The party counting the uses is the party that owes the money, so the accounting is delivered rather than requested. It arrives with every payment and it is not something you have to go and get. Every line on it can be followed back, on your own record and without asking anybody, to a session with a signature and a job with a name on the choice. A line that cannot be checked is set aside and named, never estimated and never dropped, and it shows on your own record as pending with the reason until it is resolved.
It is not a wage, a timesheet or a score. The hours counted are the hours your way of working is in use on somebody else's machine, not the hours you worked, and nothing in the count moves with how a job went.
Eight things, and not one of them is a mark out of ten.
The package asks for what is needed to reach you, to pay you, and to list you if you say yes to being listed. None of it is collected on this site.

Why who asks for you is on a form at all.
Being good is not the bar. Being asked for is. There is no ranking here to be picked from and no test to sit, so the people who have seen you work are the way in. It is the same act a foreman has always done from the yard gate, written down so the person on the other end of it is paid.
What the form does not ask.
No rating. No score. No test. No reference check that produces a mark. No field for an owner's, a customer's or a supervisor's opinion of you. There is nowhere in the package for one to be written.
This page holds none of the above and stores none of it. The form at the foot of the page opens your own mail program with your message written out, addressed to us, and the site keeps nothing. The package itself goes to you after you write.

The form at the foot of this page, or an email of your own. Tell us the seat, the ground, the years and who asks for you by name. You are not applying for anything and there is nothing to sign.
The package comes to you.
A person answers, and the papers go to your address. Not a link to a portal and not a signature request. The papers, to read.
You read it, and you ask anything.
In your own time, at a kitchen table, with your own counsel or your own representative beside you if you want them there. A clause that reads differently at the table than it does here is one we want named.
You say yes one paper at a time, or no to any.
Each agreement is given on its own and answered on its own. A no leaves the others exactly as they were given, and none of them is folded into another.
Your number and your file.
A number of your own, assigned in order and never reused, and a file under it holding the papers you signed, the payment instruction and every statement from the first.
Your own door.
You ask, a link goes to your address, and it is good once. Behind it is everything held under your name. Nobody here opens it as you.
Listed, if you said yes to that.
A page under your name carrying your photograph, your introduction, your résumé and photographs of your work, found by the family of machine and in no order within it. It comes down the day you say so.
The first session.
On our own crews and our own ground first. You are told what is recorded, in plain words, before it starts. It starts when you say so and it stops when you say so.
Nothing on that list happens to you without a person's act with a name on it, and nothing on it runs ahead of your answer. A step you do not take is a step that does not happen, and the ones before it stand.
Coming on here is not taking a job, and it is not being graded.
Each refusal below protects the reason a person would put their name to any of this. Take one away and the rest stop meaning anything.
- Not a job with us. Even Steven does not employ you and no paper in the package is meant to. Your employer is whoever employs you, and you stay there.
- Not being taken on by an owner. An owner licenses a way of working for the family of machine it was taught on, and a person on that crew clears every job.
- Not a ranking or a test. There is no list to climb and none to fall down. Hands within a family of machine are shown in no order, and nobody can pay to sit higher.
- Not a sale of your technique. There is nothing there to acquire. You license a record of how you work, we own what we build from that record, and the technique stays in your hands and in your career whatever the paper says.
- Not a score. A session is admitted or refused on equipment and paperwork alone, with the reason named from a closed list, and no check anywhere grades how you worked.
- Nothing supplied for discipline. A recording is licensed for the uses you said yes to. A use you did not say yes to, your employer wanting it for discipline or a dismissal included, is not one we supply it for.
On blind, wet or soft ground every measure you could rank by turns on you. The careful operator works slower, corrects more, and reads as the worse one right up until the quick one is in the water. So there is no order here, and no number stands in for a name.
A record can show a day where nothing went wrong. A score cannot.

This is the door. You are not applying for anything, nothing here is a signature, and nothing you send is stored on this site.
Say the seat, the ground and the years in your own words. If people ask for you by name, say who and what for. What is on this page is what is true on the day you are reading it.
The agreements are still being written, and they go to counsel before anybody is asked to sign one. The register holds no hand. The first hands are our own crews, on our own machines, and each is listed when they have said yes.
So a person writing today is writing to a door that is open and to papers that are not yet settled. We would rather say that than take a signature on something we are still drafting. When the terms are settled they go up in plain words, and the people who wrote to us first hear it first.
What is already fixed is set out above and it is not going to move: the number and the file, the papers asked for one at a time, the half that goes to the skills with nothing deducted from it, the weekly payment with a statement, the door that only you open, and the right to end it free with two true dates.
